The first concert by WSO I have seen was Mozart Magic (24 June 2006). During that concert I was nearly jumping on my sit regretting that I did not take my sketch book.
Such a vibrant aura was created... I have never had my sketch book during performances since then, but I have visited WSO (with permission), on several occasions after...
Since then I have decided to illustrate with my pictures everything what WSO is performing... Well it is far fetched to say everything…it is impossible, but I have done a few since then.
That is my way of supporting Wollongong Symphony Orchestra which is constantly threatened to be closed because of the lack of finance.
That is also my way of meditation and self-discovery of what I enjoy the most and the theme that will never vanish – music…, which in its turn gives you an inspiration into many other themes.
In those pictures I have tried to express what I felt while listening and the impact made by musical piece on the emotional stability of the listener…
At the moment I am still working on musician’s series, trying to put a few compositions, based on performers. I enjoy looking at those fingers pinching the strings, holding the bow, pushing the buttons of wind instruments, hands smashing the drums or gently running across the keyboard.
Music creates those massive pictures inside the brain, pictures of vigor and fury which just blow your mind into frantic pieces that try to put and associate each sound with something own, somewhere deep in your own being. Then the gentleness and clamminess come along and sooth you down to calm your mind and let it flow in comfortable and undistructive course.
Wait till it strikes you again with unexpected emotion…
May be I am very wrong to merge into sense that have to remain unillustrated.
But this is the Mussorgsky’s and Hartman story that made me think different and not to be afraid to use media of sound with what ever I use to make a visual statement.
