Series on War Peace Love - Rhapsody by Grant Foster

I have discovered this Rhapsody as a very emotional, powerful and expressive piece of music. This rhapsody inspired me to create eight works. Although the composer did not split his creation into 8 part, for some reason I did I still have to understand what made me do three pieces on war…May be because it is constantly on news, any way that was unconscious decision.

War

War # 1 is represented by a Warrior. The Warrior doesn’t have face it is hidden behind its exoskeleton – armour. The helmet is made in a form of an egg to remind about Lilliputians war from Swift’s novel. Gulliver discovers that Lilliputians and Blefuscu are permanently at war because of differences over the correct way to eat a boiled egg – from the rounded end according to the Blefuscudians, or from the sharp end according to the Lilliputians. The silliness of the reason for a war – any war not any different.

War # 2 is represented by a Warrior of modern days.

I was browsing net to find images of Australian soldiers. Arms, tanks etc
I am always touched by stories of soldiers that did not make it back home. It is strikes directly on the family turmoil experience during WWII.

War # 3

Roman god of war – Mars.
Initially the Roman god of fertility and vegetation and a protector of cattle, fields and boundaries, Mars later became associated with battle as the growing Roman Empire began to expand. So, much reminds expansion of global economy and justification of war in order of economical dominance.

Peace

Behind any armour a real person with its own personal life.
Family, hobbies, attachment to a place were we grew up.
Being myself a daughter of army officer I remember those little happy moments when my father was at home with us… My mother was scarred for ever as a child her dad never made it back from WWII.
Peace theme reminds of spring… Spring festivals, rides, carousels, family being together and myself up in the sky held by my dad’s strong arms.

Love

I do not have so much to say about love. It is just where and it is beautiful. I mean the feeling.

It is:
Meet and fall into…
It is always the first kiss. Is it?

It might mean:
Family. Children.
It is always:
Agony of Separation.
